TRAVEL TO DESIGN: SPOTLIGHT ON THAILAND
Every Thursday we will feature an article, project or video relating to TRAVEL and of course interior design. So each Thursday be sure to grab your passport as we crisscross the globe in search of inspiring design ideas. This week the spotlight is on Thailand. Thailand is truly an exotic country with gorgeous sandy beaches and a vibrant nightlife. But what many design enthusiasts may not know is that Thailand also has an emerging design and furniture industry.
In 2002 I was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to Thailand. What I enjoyed most as far as interior design was the vibrant use of red, yellow, and orange as well as their abundant use of sustainable materials such as bamboo. During my two week trip to Thailand I visited Bangkok, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Chiang Mai.
Each year, Thailand holds an annual furniture fair highlighting their latest use of materials and innovative designs. While countries such as China and Vietnam are filled with furniture factories, the Thailand show draws an international crowd and is gaining recognition.
